But sometimes, especially after a vacation, I need to reset. For me, it's more about resetting good habits, resetting my mind. I believe the body is pretty damn good at filtering out a moderate amount of bad stuff, so I'm not one of those people who "flushes toxins." Maybe this is just because I don't have the resolve to do that kind of detox, but, with the exception of a raw-food cleanse, I've never really experienced the glowing skin, bounding energy, sustained weigh loss that others do with a long clease. So my idea of a cleanse might not be hardcore enough for you. I'm an easy, breezy, short-term cleanser.
Plus, I'm nursing, so I can't do a "real cleanse" even if I really wanted to. Which, I don't really.
So, this week, we cut out sugar, simple carbs, dairy, red meat and alcohol. That's it. And we only did it for five days. And we cheated one night. Okay, two nights. On day four Tim and I had visions of hamburger fairies dancing in our heads. I keep trying to go back to a mostly vegan diet, but ever since I got pregnant I crave meat like cave wo-man. I'm thinking and hoping it will go away when I'm done nursing/nursing less, but for the time being, I'm listening to my body. And so we grabbed a couple of Picabu burgers (so good) and settled into watch our new favorite shows (United States of Tara and The Fall). Even with the cheating, it did serve to reset our once super healthy habits and we've decided to follow these simple rules on Monday-Thursday. So I'm perusing some recipes to cook this week. These look good:
