Get Lit! is coming to a close today. Earlier this week, a poet friend of mine and I were chatting about how we wish we could go to more events but between the school year wrapping up and family duties, we just aren't the literary social bugs we used to be. Honestly, I was exhaust just thinking about everything that was happening, exhausted by everything I was not going to have time or energy for. But one of the two events I went to, Pie & Whiskey, put on by Sam Ligon and Kate Lebo was, per usual, a delicious and tipsy blast. Last year I was too pregnant to have whiskey (I know that any pregnant is too pregnant), so this year I has twice as much. Tim read at it and was hilarious and dark and engaging, as he always is. That is not just the whiskey/sugar high talking--I read his piece before I had the whiskey and after, too.
Although this week will most likely be a recoup week, I'm hoping to attend a few events/get a few things done. Here are three things worth doing this week:
Although this week will most likely be a recoup week, I'm hoping to attend a few events/get a few things done. Here are three things worth doing this week:
1. Take a lot of walks around the neighborhood because this good weather is gonna keep on coming. Walking the same routes day after day helps me appreciate the changing weather and surroundings. Watching the same plants bud, bloom, wilt, shed helps me realize that there is enough freshness outside my window that if I'm feeling bogged down by routine, it's only because I'm not paying close enough attention.
2. Head over to Haase's Greenhouse, one of my favorites in Spokane, to start gathering ideas for our backyard and pick up some starts. I'm going to try starting seeds like this.
3. Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. I'm hoping they have received an accidental overload shipment of Buffy. Tim tells me this is not likely. Will we see you at Merlin's to pick up a free comic?
