Not that I need another reason to begrudgingly love Trader Joes, but I've just discovered their Vanilla Ice Cream. Normally I'm a Scoop girl, but dang TJs. You've outdone yourself with this rich, pure tasting cream. You always keep me coming back.
So, I'm pretty damn excited about starting this blog. I've wanted to do it for a long time, but something was stopping me. What is was I cannot quite put my finger on. Maybe I'll get into that later, but for now, we're only just meeting and I don't want to scare you away by exploring the complicated relationship my intentions have with my actions. Already, I fear I've shared too much. Let's get to the blog.
I was not quite born and raised here, but close. The way I see it, I've lived here and away just long enough to have developed enough of a city palate to tell you with confidence that Spokane rules. Growing up here that was not my attitude. If you were to have asked fifteen year old Kate how she liked Spokane, she would have said, "It's okay." If you were to have asked 18 year old Kate the same thing, she would have leaned in dramatically and said, "I'm getting the f*&k out of here." Eighteen year old Kate had a filthy mouth, something we have in common.
So I left. Then I came back. And I just bought a house with my partner, Tim, and after one last hurrah of freedom (we went to Italy) we had a baby, Beckett. They're cute, huh?

And with his encouragement, I'm starting this blog, which will mainly be about life in Spokane. I'm going to try out some regular features that are all related to life here. My hope is that this site will serve as one, a place for our out-of-town family to see pictures of their cute as hell grandson, and two, an inspiration for people to embrace the weird, scary, sometimes backwards and sometimes visionary, but ultimately hopeful, Spokane. Spokane is good. My plan is to include posts about this stuff:
- Cheap Dates (A great excuse to go to restaurants)
- Trippin' (day trips and weekend trips)
- Culture (we're a house of writers, so we like the arty types)
- Local Recipes (oh how I love food)
- Family Life (maybe I can get my husband to post here sometimes--he's much funnier than I am)
